Materials and characteristics of large machine tool castings
Material: Large machine tool castings are often made of gray cast iron (such as HT250-HT300), which meets standards such as GB9439-88. This material has the advantages of strong tensile strength, high wear resistance, and good shock absorption.
characteristic:
Wear resistance and shock absorption: The graphite structure in cast iron is beneficial for lubrication and oil storage, therefore it has good wear resistance. Meanwhile, the presence of graphite also makes the shock absorption of castings superior to that of steel.
Process performance: Grey cast iron has a high carbon content, close to eutectic composition, low melting point, good flowability, and low shrinkage rate, making it suitable for casting complex or thin-walled castings. In addition, graphite makes it easy to form chips during cutting, so the machinability of gray cast iron is better than that of steel.
